The Treasure Hunters will keep you reading way past your bedtime 36

Treasure Hunters Mother Daughter Book Club

Sometimes we need to slow down a bit, even in the summertime.  My reluctant reader will rarely pick up a book and read it herself.  She is too busy and does not give herself time to get involved in a good book. If I want her to read I will usually read to her aloud. Or, we sometimes each read a page and take turns that way.  A few months ago we read our first book in the Mother-Daughter Book Club, Jacky Ha-Ha by James Patterson.  Jacky Ha-Ha was funny and silly and we really enjoyed our reading time together.  You can read our review of Jacky Ha-Ha here, and also make sure you check out my tips for reluctant readers.

James Patterson is primarily an adult author with many wonderful adult novel. Now that we have discovered his children books we need to read them all!  They are exciting, funny, and totally entertaining. The Treasure Hunters: Peril at the Top of the World is a super fun adventure and is definitely one of those books that will keep you reading.  At bedtime I would often hear, “Please Mom, can we read one more chapter?”

You can check out the entire Treasure Hunters series here.  This series should keep you on the edge of your seat as you follow the Kidd family on their crazy and exciting adventures.  You can even read the first 10 chapters of the first book for free at that link.  So far there are 4 books in the Treasure Hunters series:

  1. Treasure Hunters
  2. Danger Down the Nile
  3. Secret of the Forbidden City
  4. Peril at the Top of the World

If you would like to buy a copy of this book, Amazon has a hardcover copy for under $9 here.

The Treasure Hunters series is wonderful for many reasons:

  • It encouraged us to read every single night!
  • We learned about historical events, famous places, and museums. We looked up each one and discussed them for hours.
  • The illustrations were a great way to break up a long chapter. A cute picture and comic and then on to the next page.
  • My daughter now wants to take her own trip around the world and become a detective just like the Kidd family.
  • It was fun to read about another family with 5 children, we could totally relate to everything that happens in a big family.

Here is a short video that will show you what we loved most about the Treasure Hunters book.

The front flap of the book is so lovely I want to share it with you.  It says, “We want to make reading fun for kids- through stories and voices that speak to them and expand their world.  We want every kid who finishes a Jimmy (James Patterson) book to say, PLEASE GIVE ME ANOTHER BOOK!”  I love this sentiment so much, and it really worked, because as soon as we finished this book we had to buy the rest of the Treasure Hunters series to read this summer.  I received a copy of the Treasure Hunters book and compensation for this post as part of a promotional program with MomSelect.  All opinions and thoughts about this book are 100% our own.

I like Treasure Hunters has chapters to read a chapter or two with kids. I’d love to introduce Treasure Hunters to my kids and take turns reading. They can learn new words and explore their imagination. Thanks for sharing.

The chapters are fairly short so they are easy to finish. Reading aloud with your kids is a great way to get them involved and excited about a new book!

The idea of a Mother Daughter Book Club is indeed an amazing idea. This would be a great post to show my niece for her and her daughter and her boys too who would so love this book. Thanks for sharing the idea and the books.

Mother-daughter or Mother-son book clubs are so much fun! Carving out quiet time to read a special book is so important! I love reading with my kids and sharing my love of books.

I also work very hard at getting my daughter to enjoy books. This book had a great mix of humor, excitement and travel to keep her wanting more each night!

My kids love to read books all the time, which as a mom I love. Finding age appropriate books as well as clean context books can be tricky and we appreciate recommendations. James Patterson is such a great author, I had no idea he had a youth collection, will definitely check that out at Books-A-Million when we go this week. Thank you.

You are so right! Every night when my daughter said, can we please read one more chapter. I would act like I did not want to stay up too late and read, but secretly I was so excited that she was reading a new book with me!

My daughter loves being part of this secret mother daughter book club. We sneak off together telling her brothers that we are doing something special. I hope your kids enjoy this book too!

I love nothing more than a great book and Treasure Hunters sounds like quite the page turner. I will definitely add it to my reading list…now I just need a babysitter to come over so that I can dig into my book list!

Maybe you can institute family reading hour, when everyone has to grab a book and read. I love to set the example of being a great reader!

I am working on my seven year old to become a better reader. He likes books, but tries to get out of reading. I really believe it takes the right book to help you immerse. Thanks for sharing this one.

I grew up with a love a reading (my mom was an elementary school librarian!) and my girls also love to read. I can’t keep up with all the books they go through. I’m going to recommend this series. I bet they will love it!

It is really fun to read kids books as an adult. It is simple, easy and you can just get carried away so easily. It is so much fun to follow the Kidd family on their adventures!

I love when authors of adult books branch out into children’s books as well. James Patterson’s voice is so wonderful in this series. He is funny, exciting and makes a book kids will not want to stop reading!
