Chores for kids will be more fun when you have the right tools
My kids do not have specific chores. You might think that makes me a terrible Mom. Instead of having chores assigned, I ask my kids to help out when they can. Until recently, no one has ever volunteered to mop the floors. When mopping turned into a fun project, everyone started to fight over the job. There might even have been a small fight that broke out over who would use the O-Cedar mop first. I giggled inside at this silly argument. With the right tools, even chores can be fun.
This past weekend we celebrated my parents’ 50th anniversary with a huge party. Can you believe that my parents have been married so long? They are an amazing example of love and devotion to everyone who knows them. I am lucky and blessed to have been born into this family. The photo below was taken 6 weeks after they were married. So after our party the kitchen looked like a disaster area. Crumbs as far as the eye could see. My daughter surprised me and pulled out our new mop and cleaned all the floors. When I asked her why she did it, she said that using this mop is really fun. She saw the big mess in the kitchen and on her own decided to help clean it up.
If you have the right tools in your home, your kids might offer to do some chores. I know this seems like a simple concept, but it is something that parents might not realize. Our new mop has been used every day since I bought it. Do you know how many times my kids mopped the floors with our old mop? Zero. The tools really make a difference. Our dog Molly is shedding like crazy. We need more mopping than ever, to keep up with all the dog hair all over.
Chores your kids will enjoy with my top 5 tool recommendations:
- The O-Cedar Easy Wring is really fun for kids or adults to use. I am sure the excitement of this mop will wear off one day, but until then, my floors are staying really clean. Your kids might even fight over who gets to use the mop first. Adults will also enjoy how easy it is to mop the floors.
- Kids love to do dishes. Any chore that involves water is going to be a lot of fun. To make the chore of doing the dishes even more fun all you need is a , a dish and your favorite dish .
- Dusting is really fun for kids. Give them a microfiber and they will enjoy dusting the entire house. Even very young kids can help with dusting.
- A are another simple chore that encourages cooperation. One child must hold the dust pan while the second needs to hold the brush. Together they have to work to pick up the dirt. When your kids are young and they spill something simple like cereal on the floor, they can easily pick that up with a dust pan and brush.
- A is a very versatile and fun tool for kids. My kids enjoy sweeping the garage floor and also cleaning the deck. The push broom has a big surface area and can clean a lot of dirt with one push. The push broom is better for kids who are a bit older because it is bigger and harder to control.
We made a video so you can see how easy it is to use this mop:
What chores do your kids enjoy? Please share your tips in the comments below.
These wring mops are AWESOME! We have one, and we love using it. It makes cleaning so much easier, and no one slips on an ultra-soggy floor.
Aren’t they awesome! They really encourage everyone to clean up more.
Love this mop! I love that it made chores fun for your kids! Definitely have to try it with mine!
I bet your kids would love it too! When the tools are really fun, the kids do mind using them.
I have had my eye on this! I need to just go get one! I bet it is more fun for the kids too – easy to use for one thing and kinda like a toy with the wringing action!
It really is like a toy almost. But a fun toy that makes your house cleaner!
It is so rewarding when our children are respectful of helping out around the house! I love when they take the initiative to clean up and help our without having to be asked. This mop looks as though it could certainly be a great motivational tool to get the job done.
You are so right! If you provide fun tools for cleaning, your kids will be wanting to help more often!
what an awesome mop system!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Tabatha! It is really such a fun way to mop the floors.
We have this mop at home and the twins have been taking turns mopping the floor. I totally agree about less work and more fun!
Life is all about doing less work and having more fun, especially when you are kids!
I have an O Cedar mop and I love it!! It’s not this one but I think having the bucket would be fun!!
O-Cedar products are fabulous! It is helpful to have the bucket and mop system since they work so well together.
This definitely makes mopping easier! I have a mop like this at home and I love it. I’m sure the kids won’t have a difficult time using this and for that, they’re more excited to help out in the house!
I love to see how excited my kids are a few weeks later, offering to mop the floors. Honestly, my floors have never been so clean!
You have found chores for kids but it looks good for me too, even if I don’t have kids and I am not a kid anymore 😀
Great post!^^
Thank you so much! This mop is super fun for adults too. I often use it when my kids are all sleeping 🙂
I have that mop and just love it! It make cleaning up a breeze.
It is so awesome, right? My kids just had a fight over who would mop up the lunch crumbs. I am loving it!
My kids don’t enjoy any chores. Lol. This post has reminded me that I need to try harder to get them involved with maintaining the house.
My kids do not enjoy chores, either! Seriously, this mop has changed chores in my house. If I have the right tools and make the chores fun, they all want to do more chores. It is a win-win!
I am super thankful that I have taught my kids how to do chores, even though they might disagree. It is good for them to learn the tasks before they move out on their own one day. My mom always did things for us and it was a real shock when I ended up on my own.
You are so right! Kids need to learn chores so that they can take of their own house when they get older!
Love this mop. Makes chores fun for the kids. Especially mine, they always have tons of excuses. Definitely, won’t have any with this mop.
It is so true! Your kids will fight who will use this mop first!
I love it! Anything to make work seem like fun is a good thing indeed!
I totally agree with you! If it hardly feels like work, then you do not mind doing it!
I need one of those mops myself! Keeps the floor from getting too wet when mopping.
Yes, exactly! When your floors are too wet they can get very dangerous. With this wringing bucket system you do not have to worry about a wet mop anymore.
Happy anniversary to your parents!!! 50 years is awesome!!! My daughter LOVES cleaning! I do not get it! LOL! And I don’t stop her!
Thank you for the good wishes. How wonderful that your daughter loves to clean, keep encouraging her, it is an important lifelong lesson.
You reminded me of my childhood my mom always had me with chores and really those help to build character and responsibility. Great post. And the O-Cedar products those I really enjoy I have them in my home too.
Your Mom did a great job if she taught you how to do chores at a young age. I also love the O-Cedar products, they last a long time and work so well.
These mops are great! I’ve been eyeing them for a while now!
It is time to stop eyeing this mop and buy one for yourself!
That is awesome. The wring mop definitely makes moping easier.
The biggest frustration with mopping is that the floor gets too wet! This bucket system really solves that problem.
I was contemplating getting this exact mop set when I went to Home Depot for a mop. I decided to get a more traditional one. But I think I want to go back and get this one!

You should go back and get this mop! The traditional ones leave tons of water on the floor because your bucket cannot wring it out.
It does look like such a fun kind of mop to use. I can imagine that my daughter would enjoy using the mop. I am not sure that my daughter would enjoy all of these tools but the mop does look like one she would enjoy.
I have not met any kids who did not love this mop. Everyone who comes to our house has to try it out!
Our preschoolers LOVE helping with anything they can and we are encouraging it, hoping that it sticks as they become older.
That is wonderful! Preschoolers are very capable of helping with chores. It is very smart to start teaching young children how to help around the house.
I have to start giving chores to my nephew. He is hyperactive and I think this way I can kill some of that energy 🙂 But also this is a great way to teach kids responsibility.
Chore are wonderful for kids with extra energy! They can burn it off and help at the same time.
I totally agree about having the right tools for the job! I definitely could use that bucket, I think the kids would like using it versus the industrial size that we have.
The right tools really do make a big difference!
