Peach and Blackberry Crisp is a perfect recipe to help say goodbye to summer’s amazing fruits. We recently visited the Pike & Rose Central Farm Market and I found a very diverse group of fantastic vendors. This market has relocated to the back of the REI parking lot. If you are in the Rockville, Maryland area, you should definitely try to stop by for a visit. They are open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the large parking lot behind the REI in Pike & Rose, right off Rockville Pike. The market stays open until November 18, 2017.

Every week the vendor list is updated. Live music is playing, there are quiet places to sit and eat, and fabulous vendors are selling their foods. Free parking is located very close by as well. You can also look online here to read more about the vendors who are on the Pike & Rose list.

Pike & Rose is filling up quickly! Sur La Table, one of my favorite stores, will be opening on August 30th. Sur La Table had a beautiful display with some delicious desserts you could sample. They will be hosting hands-on cooking classes starting in September. Another new member of Pike & Rose is Pinstripes, a great family destination with a bistro, bowling, and bocce. Pinstripes just opened this month and we will be sharing a full review in September. Visiting the farmer’s market is a great way to learn about the newest shops that are opening at Pike & Rose.

My favorite part of a farmer’s market is all the fresh produce. Healthy foods are my passion. Visiting a farmer’s market can be quite dangerous for me, I want to buy everything I see. Our first stop was Westmoreland berry farm & market. We found the biggest blackberries at Westmorelands. They were the largest and sweetest blackberries I have ever seen and they became the inspirations for today’s recipe.

We found our next inspiration and more fresh fruit at Twin Springs Fruit Farm. These peaches were incredibly good. We tasted a sample and it was incredibly sweet and a perfect texture. These peaches would make a perfect match for the blackberries.

One of the best things about visiting a farmer’s market is the wide variety of options. King Mushrooms had one thing for sale: mushrooms. I had never even heard of most of these varieties before, but they sure did make an excellent mushroom soup!

Hex Ferments was my husband’s favorite stop. After trying all the different flavors of Kombucha he chose one flavor to bring home. He voted it the best Kombucha he has ever had.

Two Acre Farm is one of our favorite stands. Not only do they always have excellent quality produce, it is their creative sauces and delightful spreads that set them apart. Their marinara, mustard, sauces, and salsas are made with the freshest and healthiest ingredients. Their goal is to preserve the harvest while creating artisan flavors. One word to describe this stand: Delicious!

A day of fresh fruit and vegetable is fun, but we needed some chocolate. We ended our visit with delicious chocolate tastings. The Salazon chocolate co. had some fabulous flavors to try. Our favorite was the dark chocolate with coconut.

Rita’s Crepes is a long standing farmer’s market favorite. Look at all these awesome options you can choose from. Each crepe is created right in front of you. The batter is poured onto one of the hot griddles and it puffs up in seconds. The toppings are added and your crepe is put into a paper cone and ready to eat in minutes.

This is a snapshot of some of the goodies we found at the Pike & Rose Farmer’s Market. There are new offerings each week, so try to find some time to visit your local market. Today’s recipe is a peach and blackberry crisp. The mini blogger made this recipe almost all by herself. She washed and cut up all the fruit. She also put together the ingredients for the topping. Encourage your kids to help in the kitchen because knowing how to cook is an important life skill. I hope you enjoy this recipe.
