Hunger Action Month with Feeding America

September is back to school month in Virginia but it is also Hunger Action Month. This campaign is dedicated to bringing awareness and inspiring action to help those who are hungry. Feeding America does a fantastic job! They are the second-largest nonprofit in the US. There are many ways that Feeding America helps people who are hungry.

  • Feeding America rescues food that would otherwise be thrown away.
  • Feeding America uses donations to move food to where it is needed.
  • Local food banks store the food and donate to those who need it.
  • The food that is collected by Feeding America is shared with not only food banks, but also soup kitchens, youth programs, senior centers, and emergency shelters.

In 2020, more than 5 billion meals were shared with those who need them. Feeding America has more than 2oo food banks and more than 2 million volunteers who help keep this important program running. Please visit this link to learn more about Hunger Action Month and how you can help.

veggies made great muffins and frittatas

Veggies Made Great

This is the ultimate lunchbox snack. The Veggies Made Great company has figured out a way to make vegetables taste delicious. No one will know that the double chocolate muffin they enjoyed for dessert is high in protein and full of healthy vegetables. The frittatas are a great addition to a lunchbox or a breakfast on the go. The best part of this brand, they are allergy-friendly. All of the Veggie Made Great products are gluten-free, nut-free, and full of plant-based protein. These delicious muffins make it fun to eat your veggies. If you would like to try a box for yourself, click here and print a coupon.

Mighty Sesame Co organic tahini

Mighty Sesame Organic Tahini

Tahini is a multipurpose staple in our house. We use it on falafel sandwiches most often, but we also love to dip vegetables in it, add it to salads, and as a secret ingredient in cookies. The Mighty Sesame Organic Tahini is the best tahini we have ever tried. It is made with only one ingredient, organic unhulled sesame seeds in a nut-free facility. Unlike other tahinis, the Mighty Sesame comes in an easy-to-use squeeze bottle. Simply shake, squeeze out a drizzle, and enjoy. Mighty Sesame tahini is super creamy and a great source of protein and calcium. It is an excellent dip with fresh vegetables or an amazing topping on sandwiches.

Mighty Sesame tahini comes in two flavors, regular and spicy harissa flavor. Both flavors are vegan, gluten-free, plant-based, and delicious. The Mighty Sesame also has two other delicious products: tahini tubs and tahini bars.

King Arthur Baking Company pancake mixes

King Arthur Baking Company Pancake Mixes

Did you know that the King Arthur Baking Company has been in business since 1790? They have some of the best baking mixes around. These new pancake mixes are fantastic. The confetti mix is a fun way to celebrate a birthday at home or make some pancakes for on-the-go breakfast. My kids gobbled these right up and declared them the best pancakes they ever had. When you purchase any King Arthur Baking Company products you know you are getting the highest quality ingredients available. Both mixes could not be easier to make, simply add water and prepare. The buttermilk pancake mix includes real buttermilk and the confetti pancake mix has tons of colorful sprinkles inside. Your kids could definitely make these pancakes with adult supervision.

The confetti pancakes are quite the treat. Each bite has some brightly colored sprinkles inside. Don’t worry, these sprinkles are all-natural, with no artificial colors or flavors. Not only do these pancakes look cute, they taste amazing. My daughter made a few pancakes to try them and then polished off the rest of the bag with her brothers later on that day. Each serving has only 5 grams of added sugar, so a fun and fairly healthy breakfast or lunchbox food.

Minute Rice on the go snack

Minute Rice

Making rice in less than a minute is a super convenient option. Minute Rice serves up rice with no added ingredients and helps you make a quick meal in 60 seconds. Rice is one of my favorite lunchbox foods. Simply serve it as is, or make quick fried rice. To make this recipe, saute any vegetables you have in your refrigerator, add in some rice and some soy sauce mixed with mirin, ponzu, and chili oil. It tastes so good and can be a fantastic on-the-go meal. Minute rice has been making rice since the 1940s. Each of these containers has two single-serve portions and can be microwaved and ready in less than 60 seconds.

This lunch was ready in less than ten minutes and it was super filling and delicious. Minute rice cups are BPA-free and save you tons of time in the kitchen. These rice cups can be eaten alone or can be added to another dish. We love to keep our pantry stocked with these Minute ready-to-serve rice cups so that we always have rice ready to go, no matter what meal we are making.
