Oreo Ice Cream at Home in 30 minutes 24

Oreo Ice Cream in 30 minutes. Full recipe at www.cookwith5kids.com

Ice Cream is a food group in our house during the summer.  It’s very hot and the kids just want to eat ice cream.

The key to making this amazing ice cream at home is the Gourmia Ice Cream Maker.  This Gourmia machine has a built in compressor.  Why do you need a compressor?  You need one so that you do not have to freeze your container 24-48 hours before making your ice cream.  We have owned 4 different ice cream making machines and contraptions.  None of them created ice cream that would even come close to the results from this machine.  You also do not need to clear out a huge space in your freezer for the ice cream container to freeze!  Ice cream making became so much easier!

One quick note about vanilla paste. In our Vanilla Ice Cream recipe we use Nielsen Massey vanilla paste.  If you bake at all you really want to invest in this vanilla paste instead of using vanilla extract. If you are just an occasional chef the vanilla extract is fine.  The Vanilla paste has an amazing flavor and tons of little vanilla flecks to give you an authentic vanilla taste. It really elevates all our desserts.

We have experimented this summer with lots of different ice cream flavors.  We have made Vanilla Ice cream (the same recipe as the Oreo, just without adding the oreos) We have made chocolate and also chocolate chip.  We have also tried almond milk and coconut milk ice creams, both were amazing!  Finally, we have had success with aquafaba ice cream too. If you do not know what aquafaba is, read this post here.  One more tip, I have substituted skim milk for the whole milk a few times, and I have also substituted half and half for the heavy cream and they all come out perfectly delicious. Experiment, that is what cooking is all about!  This ice cream is so good, you might never buy a tub of ice cream again!

What flavor should we try next?  My daughter wants to make mint chocolate chip so that is happening soon.  Oreo ice cream seems to be the crowd favorite at our house.
