Do your kids come home from school and say that nothing happens each day? With TiffinTalk your children will be encouraged to share how they are feeling and what is happening in their lives. Cards are available for children as young as preschool up until high school. Each box of personalized questions is used as a guide that will result in better communication with your kids. Over the past few months I have been using these cards with my daughter, Diane. We have started to really look forward to this quiet time spent together.  Each weeknight we explore a new card. We tackle small and large problems, some with very surprising results. In the first week we started our question 5 minutes before bedtime. What I thought might be a quick chat turned into an hour long dialogue. We have learned that we need to allow a minimum of 30 minutes so we have plenty of time to go over our TiffinTalk card.

TiffinTalk helps open up communication with your kids

My daughter and I have good communication. As time goes by and she gets older, I feel like she is keeping more of her thoughts to herself. I can see her changing into a typical tween who does not want to share the day to day happenings with her Mom anymore. The questions that are included in the TiffinTalk box are perfect lead-ins to talk about everything else in her life. Devoting this special time allows Diane a safe space to share her thoughts and feelings. Here are some examples of a few questions that were included in our box:

  • Can you give your memories to someone else to keep for you?
  • If you need your memories back, is it still your memory?
  • How is our family different than other families?
  • Have you ever wanted to be in someone else’s family?

For us, TiffinTalk reminds us to dedicate a necessary Mother-daughter time each day. Yes, we are busy and our lives are crazy most of the time. Sitting down with my youngest and pulling out our box of cards feels so good after a busy day.  We both put away all electronics, sit together, and share a new question. Each question always leads to a bigger picture about Diane’s day or how she is feeling. Since starting the TiffinTalk box, we are closer than ever. Carving out this quiet time is priceless. Alone time is quite rare in a big family. TiffinTalk has encouraged us to carve out this necessary time before she is grown up and out of the house.

The box of cards is organized for the age of your child by season and day. This photo of our first card shows one piece of the puzzle. Each subsequent day another piece of the puzzle is revealed. On this first day, we both tried to guess what the final photo would be. Diane was so excited that she guessed a cat, while I guessed a field of flowers. On this card, week 1:Monday memories, we had these questions:

  • Do you remember yesterday?
  • How do you remember?
  • What do you remember?
  • What have you forgotten?

Our conversation on this card was fascinating. I was so surprised that Diane did not remember much from the day before. I thought only older people had bad memories. Based on her answers, young people do not remember much either. I was also surprised to hear how much she had forgotten. She barely remembered our last family vacation. Memories are fleeting, no matter what age you are. TiffinTalk is a great way to maintain your memories and create new ones. Click here to buy a set for you and your child.

As my boys get older, I think keeping open lines of communication is key! This sounds like an excellent way to do that.

TiffinTalk sounds awesome! Anything that encourages and improves the communication between parents and kids is a-okay in my book.

I totally agree with you! Parents sometimes need a little help knowing what to talk about and that is where TiffinTalk comes in.

What a great way to build communication with your child. I love how the questions prompt the children to actually think about what’s happening in their life. Putting all the tech stuff away and spending time together talking is so important.

Children growing up now are not used to being without their electronics. Some parents do not know what to talk about, so TiffinTalk is perfect to help parents carve out a special time to talk about these important questions.

TiffinTalk makes communication fun! Kids need reminders that it is ok to be without electronics and just talk with their parents.

This is a very neat idea. I have never heard of this before. For now, my kids love to talk to me. I hope they continue the trend as they get older.

You will be surprised how kids change once they become tweens and teens! I hope your kids will always feel comfortable talking with you.

Thank you! I think if your communication is good when your kids are young, it will hopefully continue as the kids get older.

Open lines of communication are so very important. I have a teenager and a tween, so it can be such a challenge sometimes!

This is such a great way to start conversations with your kids and get them away from technology. Having your kids feel comfortable talking to you and connecting with you as they grow older is so important.

    • Sara Post author

I totally agree with you! Technology is creating a new generation that does not know how to communicate face to face.

This is a great idea! When we encourage our kids to talk and have open communication with them, talking with each other will not be an issue once they get in the tween or teen age years. My kids are all grown up now so I will have to share this with my cousin who still has very young kids.

I’ve never heard of this product before. You are right, memories can be fleeting. My oldest son remembered everything at a young age but over the years it has started to fade, we just dont access those memories as much.

We really need to do whatever we can to keep our memories alive. It is important to work on holding on to these important memories.

What a great way to strike a conversation with your children. My kids usually clam up for no reason at all and I am always worried that there is something really big bothering them. I will have to get this Tiffintalk. Whoever invented this is a genius!

I never thought about our children and memories quite this way. My girls and I talk about everything, but I have never delved into what exactly they remember from our experiences together.

    • Sara Post author

It really is an interesting topic to talk about. Sharing cards and topics like these will only bring your family closer together.

I am constantly amazed that my kids will say nothing happened at school for 8 hours! It is crazy that they sometimes cannot think of one thing that happened.

  • Lisa Heath

This sounds amazing! I had never heard of Tiffintalk, but I’ll have to look more into it. My son is getting older and we keep stressing that he can talk to us whenever he needs, but you never know with kids!
